I’m an independent CX, design & strategy consultant specializing in healthcare and civic tech. Most recently I was a Principal Product and CX Strategy consultant and Washington DC office lead for BCG X, the digital strategy arm of Boston Consulting Group (BCG). In this role I led cross functional teams to develop product strategy, build digital solutions, and improve customer experience.
My background in Art and Psychology led me to the product design world where I use human centered design (HCD) to influence behavior, drive positive change, and innovate products and services.
Over the past two decades I’ve created physical and digital products, services and experiences, and new business innovation for Fortune 500 companies, not-for-profits, and government agencies.
I launched Miller Kelly Design in 2005 to make my burgeoning consulting practice official. Since then I was a Co-Founder and Head of Design & Innovation at Superhuman-X, an R&D Lab and consulting practice on a mission to put humans at the center of computing. With a background in art, psychology, and industrial design, I’m passionate about using design to influence behavior and solve human and life centered problems in a meaningful way. Before joining Superhuman-X, I was the Managing Director of Design and Innovation at Singularity University, where I led the consulting practice and worked with a team of designers, analysts, and futurists to imagine new technology enabled solutions. During my time at SU, I mentored impact startups, worked with Fortune 500 companies across a variety of industries such as healthcare, consumer products, finance, media & entertainment, information technology, telecommunications, software, retail and security.
My passion for civic tech led to me to help build a HCD practice implementing industry best practices at the Digital Lab in the Global Public Affairs Bureau at the US Department of State. My consulting work has spanned the fields of robotics, manufacturing, finance, education and healthcare. Inspired by my young children, I founded a children’s organic clothing brand and I have years of experience working with early stage internet start-ups. My work has earned multiple awards from the Industrial Designers Society of American (IDEA) and James Dyson Design Awards. I also enjoy delivering talks on design, innovation and the power of storytelling as well as facilitating hands-on workshops to groups around the globe.
In addition to my professional work, I’ve been dedicated to mentoring the next generation of problem solvers by lecturing at San Jose State University and California College of the Arts and am on the Advisory Board for Women in Innovation (WIN), a Global organization focused on closing the gender gap in innovation.
Clients include: Fortune 500 companies in mobility, healthcare, consumer products, finance, media & entertainment, information technology, telecommunications, software, retail, security and government.
Principles
Optimism
Every challenge is an opportunity. Keep an open mind. Embrace challenge, make change.
Empathy
Listen. Challenge your assumptions and see the challenge from another perspective. Live that perspective.
Inclusion
Shifting perspectives requires including multiple points of view. The most effective solutions are co-created with users, customers and stakeholders.
Trust & Transparency
The best work comes from teams who trust each other and have permission to take risks, learn from mistakes, and give and receive regular feedback.
Presenting at the Singularity University Global Summit. San Francisco, 2019.
I have spent the past several years focused on projects at the intersection of technology, human centered design, and impact. In addition to civic tech I’ve designed, facilitated, and delivered numerous workshops and spoken at conferences around the globe about design and strategy.
